Everyone with kids knows this feeling…

Reshared post from +Bill Gross

From the "fingers" of babes…

"This past summer, I gathered a group of 20 babies between the ages of 14 and 20 months. I handed each one a BlackBerry. No sooner had the babies grasped the phones than they swiped their little fingers across the screens as if they were iPhones, seemingly expecting the screens to come to life. It appears that a whole new generation is being primed to navigate the world of electronics in a ritualized, Apple-approved way." – Martin Lindstrom in NYT

My young son a few years ago couldn't figure out why the TV wasn't a touchscreen. I've heard of babies taking pictures in a book and trying to pinch and zoom them with their fingers. Have you ever seen this?

linkWrapper”>+Peter McDermott. Interesting to think how 2012 election will use social media to engage users/voters/me.

Reshared post from +Peter McDermott

CAN YOU ACTUALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE USING YOUR BLOG OR SOCIAL MEDIA?
The Internet as you know it is in danger, will you help me save it?

Anytime politics are bought up on the Internet things can get ugly. Most consider it a taboo conversation topic at watering holes and is seldom seen in social networks. However, I think there is one political issue that we can all agree on. The future of the Internet, how we access it and how we use it.

Media conglomerate and Internet service provider lobbyists are pressuring congress to limit the FCC regulations that pertain to providing Internet service to US residents. The regulations that are in place basically guarantee that ISP's will not begin censoring certain sites or limiting you to only seeing certain parts of the web.

Since the 90's, Internet access in the United States has been untouched. We are free to roam about as we please, meet people from other countries, obtain our news from any source we desire and share our own thoughts and opinions without any filter or restrictions. Recently different types of traffic have been "throttled" and even that has caused uproar. But it only caused an uproar because people felt the pain of what was happening.

Someone posted a link to an article in the Huffington Post (link below) that led me to conduct a lot of research this morning, particularly about US Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and her plan to tear down the FCC's "Iron Curtain." You won't find Marsha Blackburn on Google+, but you will find one of her aides, +Don Johnson. He is a field representative for the Republican Party in Memphis, Tennessee.

SO WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?

It goes something like this: Marsha Blackburn has duped her Republican constituents into thinking that the FCC is trying to control the Internet and asking for support to revoke their power to regulate and to tear down the "Iron Curtain" they hold over the Internet. This sounds good, no? Freedom for the Internet, right? No more regulation, the government steps out. Sounds like a very novel libertarian concept.

It's not. If the FCC were to stop regulating the way Internet providers operate, private companies would be able to censor access to certain sites and realms, charge premiums for different types of data being sent and control and monitor ways you access the Internet that James Orwell wouldn't have even dreamt of.

So what can we do about it? Well, we can dispel the lie. We can continue to share this story with our friends, with people that use the Internet every day. This is an issue that crosses party lines and our freedom is in serious jeopardy.

I have submitted a request to the Office of Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn to have a Google+ hangout interview with her to find out why she is taking this stance and to see how the lobbyists have twisted her arm into telling the American public nothing but deceiving lies. NET NEUTRALITY FOR ALL!

If you haven't read up on the issues, here are a couple of good articles to start with. Please leave your comments below and feel free to re-share!

The speed of light is said to be a constant, but I always wondered: Why does it have the value that it does? Who or what assigned it that specific value? Maybe it only seems like a constant. Sort of like how the horizon seems flat but when you zoom out it is actually curved. Maybe the speed of light is dynamic and varies slightly. Maybe the scientists at CERN have finally been able to build equipment large enough and precise enough to measure the "curve" in the speed of light. Or… maybe their atomic clocks are messed up. Who knows!

"Under the new rule, Sprint’s formerly unlimited mobile hotspot feature will remain the same price at $29.99 per month, but will allot only 5GB of data. Once that amount is used, customers will be charged $0.05 per megabyte. Sprint notes that tablets acting as hotspots are exempt from the data limit. The plan goes into effect October 2 for new customers.

In the document, Sprint notes that existing customers will be notified via bill messages or postcards “being sent in October and November” that they will be forcibly migrated to the new plan, effective on the first day of the next bill cycle after they receive their notice. "

/span>Christopher Penn wrote a great post on F8 first impressions. Thanks man!

Reshared post from +Christopher Penn

First impressions from the F8 announcements…

1. Winners: media outlets. Spotify, Hulu, many others. The Open Graph intends to socially enable every possible aspect of your life in as automated a fashion as possible. Who can attract the most eyeballs? The common denominator content providers and big houses.

2. Losers: batch and blast organic marketers. The way marketers are going to get to audiences through Timeline and Open Graph is pretty clearly through Apps. For everything else, you're going to be using the Ads system. All those Likes and other things? They don't appear as though they'll significantly impact this new interface except in the most peripheral of ways.

3. Winners: the popular. Edge Rank has been filtering the real time feed; Open Graph's new Graph Rank will filter the Timeline and access to eyeballs for apps. Marketing will need to reinforce apps with other channels to ensure their success. If you're good at marketing, good at building buzz, good at aggregating crowds, you will win.

4. Losers: the entrepreneurs and independents. If you have no budget and/or no capabilities to promote your stuff – whether you're a content producer, media maker, or developer – you're pretty much screwed. Everyone else who is a better marketer or has a bigger budget is going to run you over.

5. Winners: the data driven. Over time, you can bet that Timeline and Open Graph data will be made available via API. There's a huge bounty available for anyone who can crunch massive pools of data and extract insights from it. Imagine being able to do massive data insight gathering from an entire lifetime instead of just a few status updates and likes.

6. Losers: people concerned about privacy. If you thought managing privacy controls now was tough, just wait till you face an entirely new set for Timeline and Open Graph.

Final food for thought: Facebook isn't doing anything new, data-wise. If you're creeped out by this, then realize that most of this data is already in their system. They're simply designing a new way to organize it. Sure, stuff like Timeline and Open Graph will let more parts of your life be socialized, but the vast majority of relevant Timeline data like photos, status, likes, etc. is already in the machine.

What are your initial thoughts and takeaways from the Facebook F8 announcements?
